The Optimality of a Fast CNF Conversion and its Use with SAT
نویسنده
چکیده
Despite the widespread use and study of Boolean satisfiability for a diverse range of problem domains, encoding of problems is usually given to general propositional logic with little or no discussion of the conversion to clause form that will be necessary. In this paper we present a fast and easy to implement conversion to equisatisfiable clause form for Boolean circuits, a popular representation of propositional logic formulae. We show that the conversion is equivalent to that of Boy de la Tour and is hence optimal in the number of clauses produced for linear input formulae (formulæ excluding ↔), and we discuss the optimality for other input formulae. We present experimental results for this and other conversion procedures on BMC problems demonstrating its superiority, and conclude that the CNF conversion plays a large part in reducing the overall solving time.

Randomized Algorithm For 3-Set Splitting Problem and it's Markovian Model
In this paper we restrict every set splitting problem to the special case in which every set has just three elements. This restricted version is also NP-complete. Then, we introduce a general conversion from any set splitting problem to 3-set splitting. Then we introduce a randomize algorithm, and we use Markov chain model for run time complexity analysis of this algorithm. In the last section ...
متن کاملSolving Non-clausal Formulas with DPLL search
Great progress has been made on DPLL based SAT solvers operating on CNF encoded SAT theories. However, for most problems CNF is not a very natural representation. Typically these problems are more easily expressed using unrestricted propositional formulae and hence must be converted to CNF before modern SAT solvers can be applied. This conversion entails a considerable loss of information about...
متن کاملEfficient Circuit to CNF Conversion
Modern SAT solvers are proficient at solving Boolean satisfiability problems in Conjunctive Normal Form (CNF). However, these problems mostly arise from general Boolean circuits that are then translated to CNF. We outline a simple and expressive data structure for describing arbitrary circuits, as well as an algorithm for converting circuits to CNF. Our experimental results over a large benchma...
متن کاملQBF Modeling: Exploiting Player Symmetry for Simplicity and Efficiency
Quantified Boolean Formulas (QBFs) present the next big challenge for automated propositional reasoning. Not surprisingly, most of the present day QBF solvers are extensions of successful propositional satisfiability algorithms (SAT solvers). They directly integrate the lessons learned from SAT research, thus avoiding re-inventing the wheel. In particular, they use the standard conjunctive norm...
متن کاملApplying Logic Synthesis for Speeding Up SAT
SAT solvers are often challenged with very hard problems that remain unsolved after hours of CPU time. The research community meets the challenge in two ways: (1) by improving the SAT solver technology, for example, perfecting heuristics for variable ordering, and (2) by inventing new ways of constructing simpler SAT problems, either using domain specific information during the translation from...
